How can I determine what my FTP Initial Directory is?

Answer: The FTP Initial Directory is a setting in RealCart™ that tells the publishing wizard what folder to upload the “cart” folder to on your FTP server. This is the folder on your web server that contains your web documents (web pages). Your web hosting ISP told you what your web document folder is when you initially set up your web hosting account.

This setting will be something similar to one of the following examples:

/username
/home/htdocs
/youruserid/www
/etc/httpd/public_html

Here are three examples of what this setting IS NOT:

C:\My Documents\webpages
ftp.myserver.com
216.219.253.211

If you do not know what your Initial Directory is there are a couple of things you can try.

First of all, why not ask your web hosting ISP. They would know. Another obvious place to try would be to look at the initial setup directions that your web hosting ISP gave you when you originally set up your account. What you need to find out is what folder your web pages are to be placed in.

Since there are so many web hosting ISPs and so many different kinds of web servers it is impossible to know what folder this is without either finding out from your web host ISP or find out on your own. If your web host ISP doesn’t help you figure this out you can figure it out on your own. You will need to know your FTP server, username and password.
