Manually Configuring NMS formmail.pl to work with RealCart™

NMS formmail.pl is a FREE Perl script from London Perl Mongers. This script is based on the original “FormMail.pl” script by Matt Wright of Matt’s Script Archive, Inc.

RealCart™ provides this PERL script as a courtesy. RealCart™ Technical Support can help you use this script with a RealCart™ online store but cannot troubleshoot problems with scripts or help you create scripts. For assistance with troubleshooting a problem, contact the script’s author as listed in its ReadMe file or your ISP.

Downloading and installing WS_FTP LE and EditPad Classic
You will need both of these programs (or equivalent software) to do the things described in the following pages.
Using EditPad to manually edit and configure formmail.pl
You can use Windows Notepad.exe if you want to.
Setting your web site as a valid referrer in formmail.pl — REQUIRED!
Setting the location of SendMail in formmail.pl
— may not be necessary
Setting the location of Perl in formmail.pl
— may not be necessary
Using WS_FTP to upload (publish) and set permissions for formmail.pl on your web server
— can be tricky. Do this as instructed.

RealCart™ will automatically publish and configure formmail.pl when you select UNIX as the “Server Type” in the Checkout Wizard and subsequently publish your on-line store with the Publishing Wizard. If you are using PayPal for UNIX or one of the other UNIX specific Secure Order Providers you just first select “UNIX” instead of “Secure Order Provider” as your Server Type in the Checkout Wizard and publish your store using the Publishing Wizard.

If you have already published your store with RealCart configured for UNIX and are experiencing problems using formmail.pl then you may need to manually configure it using the steps outlined below. To make this process of manually configuring and installing FormMail easier there are two programs you will need to download and install.

The Programs you will need to do this are:

WS_FTP LE from IPSwitch.com. Registration for this program is necessary if you use this program beyond this simple evaluation. RealCart.com does not provide technical support for WS_FTP, you may visit their web site for WS_FTP LE Tech Support.
EditPad Classic from JGSoft.com. Registration for this program is accomplished by simply sending the author a nice postcard or a used phone card. Registration is not necessary unless you use this program beyond this simple evaluation.
