FTP Site URL (host server name)

Your FTP host address. This is the address where you are to publish or upload your site files. Your web host provided this information to you when you set up your web hosting account. If you still have your setup instructions that you were provided when you set up your web space you should review the information to determine the proper publishing settings to use. (FrontPage, DreamWeaver and other editors, this is the FTP address to which your site is “Published”.)

Typically this could be your web host’s address (e.g. www.yourwebhost.net, ftp.yourwebhost.net or even your own domain, e.g. ftp.yourdomain.com) Substituting, of course, your actual domain name in place of yourdomain.com. This setting is NOT something you can simply guess. An incorrect FTP Initial Directory will simply result in errors when you try to publish. Although we cannot tell you what your FTP host address is, we can tell you with all likelihood what this address is NOT:

Do NOT include “http://” or “ftp://” at the beginning of this field. Just use the host name itself:

ftp.whatever.com

You can use an IP address if you wish. To do this enter ONLY the number:

123.145.167.189

Never enter an IP address like this:

ftp.123.145.167.189

Either use a NAME or an IP number but do not try to combine IP numbers with letters. The above example IP address that starts with "ftp." is INCORRECT and will not work.

If you do not know what this address should be, contact your web hosting provider and ask them what your “FTP server” is.

FTP Username

The username you use to access your directory on your web hosts' server. This is usually the same as your domain email username but not always. If you do not know what your FTP username is, contact your web hosting provider and ask them.

FTP Password

The password you use to access your directory on your web hosts' server. This is usually the same as your domain email password but not always. If you do not know what your FTP password is, contact your web hosting provider and ask them.

You will likely need to to set your FTP Initial Directory, just click on the “Advanced” button for more advanced settings.
