Stock Number

You most likely already have a stock number, be it a manufacturer’s stock number or one that you made up yourself. You will need to assign a unique stock number to each of your products. If you do not already have unique stock numbers for all of your products, you will need to make some up. The Product Wizard requires a unique stock number for each product entered into RealCart. You may enter letter-number combinations or just a word. You may not use a “word” that you have already used as the name of a department.

Short Product Name

The shopping cart applet (the part that stays visible in your on-line store that contains the “Remove Item” and “Checkout” buttons) has a limited amount of space in which to display your product names. You will want your customer to be able to tell, at a glance, which of your products they have already selected. You will want to keep this short name around 20-25 characters or less including spaces.

Longer Product Name

This actual name of your product. It may be the same as the “short” product name or it may be longer. The information you enter here will be reflected in the full information of your product that a customer will see when they are browsing your product pages. As a rule you will want to keep this name around 50 characters or less so it will not be too long for various navigational menus that may contain the name in your on-line store. (Long names that are too long can cause product, department and other pages in your on-line store to display incorrectly.)
