Product Description

This field contains the long description of your product. Those of you that have an existing web site may not want to be too descriptive in this field as you may, instead, wish to utilize the “More Information Link” to point shoppers to your existing product pages for more complete and detailed information.

The description field may optionally contain HTML code, links to Adobe Acrobat (PDF) files, Sound clips, Video files or any other media you wish. There is no limit on the number of characters this field can contain, however, keep in mind that some shoppers still use 56k dial-up accounts to access your on-line store. As a result you should always be conscious of how much information you place here.

When we say that HTML code is OK, we are allowing for the possibility that you may want to just copy and paste HTML code that you may already have describing your product in this information field. But writing your product’s description in HTML code gives you the opportunity to emphasize words in your description, add a page counter, add a Macromedia Flash element, include a link to a manufacturer or anything else you can imagine. For more information on basic HTML text formatting commands, we suggest either the included HTML help file with RealCart (available from the Tools menu) or the NCSA — Beginner’s Guide to HTML.

URL to More Detailed Product Page - Optional (aka The “More Info Link”)

This field should contain the URL (web address) of an existing page on your web site that explains this product in more detail. Many of our users have existing web sites with highly detailed product pages. Pages with which they have spent a great deal of time. If you have such a page, enter the URL of the page in this field. Entering a web page address here will result in a link on your product page resembling the following:

When the link is clicked your existing product page will appear in a new window. Here are some valid URLs:

We realize that many of our users are creating their first e-commerce site, maybe even creating their entire site from scratch. If this is your situation, then please feel free to leave this information field blank. Our Product Wizard will accept either a valid HTTP:// address or no value at all.
